Here, I present to you Microsoft’s Orwellian device that will “enable” you to work all day, every day! No matter what you’re doing, the long arm of your labor will haunt over you, like a spectre of privation’s hardship, motivating you to never ever ever stop working. Ignore your children. Keep working.

This is, quite honestly, Marxism’s nightmare. Technology, instead of liberating man from the unending toil of capitalism, has been harnessed in such a manner that it removes all possibility of respite. Productivity is at an all time high - and we’ve been running up the score since 1975. Real wages have stagnated, the working class has seen a backslide in living condition, and inequality has risen to a level not seen since the turn of the last century.

You really have to give it to capital - there’s no adversity it can’t overcome. The great leveling of wealth following the two World Wars has been completely undone. A necessary condition of which was labor being ground into dust, orchestrated in the wake of the collapse of the social-democratic welfare state.

The Neoliberal consensus, headlined by Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, exported Capitalism’s exploitation to the 3rd world, and with it went the industrial base of employment that enabled labor in the first place.

Powered by a debt-saddled, unpropertied new class of “educated” citizens, capitalism has found itself in a rather comfy spot. There’s not exactly an international socialist movement to match the international capitalist establishment. Even so, that title has a dubious standing, with the bloody legacy of the Soviet Union, and other “Communist” autocracies that litter the de-colonized remains of the 3rd world.

Opposition to capitalism today is disorganized, and marginalized as a matter of course. I’m certainly not brave enough to put myself out there - I’m going to work in the media, for chrissake.

It’s a good thing I’m not much of a drinker, because this shit is getting seriously ridiculous. Any ideas, nebulous Tumblr-verse?

I figured I could reblog this to my blog with actual followers. Enjoy?

This is what it looks like when you live in a gun-obsessed culture that is unwilling to consider, let alone implement the kinds of changes needed to protect students from school shootings.

For the entirety of my life, I’ve had the distinct pleasure of living in the biggest, best, most freer-est nation on this crazy little marble we call Earth. That nation, it goes without saying, is Sweden America. Yes, that’s right, plucky little America. The land of the free. The home of the…
